For Starters

how to begin

The first step is always the hardest. I describe it as catching a wave. It’s the bit where motivation and inspiration collide. You know you are there when all those nagging inner voices {and a few of the external ones} add up and you just can’t ignore them anymore. For me, knowledge came first. I needed to have an understanding of the science behind the diet but I also needed to get to grips with my own body and mind… after all I had ignored it for so long.

Not everyone needs to know the ins and out of the science – infact it might put many people off – but everyone needs to be able to listen to their body and mind. That’s probably my biggest tip – just not always the easiest to follow!

What is keto

in simple terms

What is Keto

  • The ketogenic diet (or keto) is a low-carb, high-fat way of eating
  • When you curb your carb intake and replace it with good fats. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis {a metabolic state in which fat provides most of the fuel for the body}
  • Ballpark figures – eat 5% fat, 15% protein and 80% good fats

What Keto is NOT

  • A fad diet
  • A quick fix – it’s a healthy way of life
  • Atkins or the like
  • It’s definitely not the same as Ketoacidosis (Google it!)

The Key to Happiness (like what I did there?) has put me on a path to clarity, great health, and absorbing knowledge. My good friend and mentor Jack Black from the Mindstore organisation first told me to read certain books and listen to podcasts to awaken my curiosity on the Keto journey.
